Smear campaigns against Hindu Gurus: Presumed guilty until proven innocent?

Smear campaigns against Hindu Gurus: Presumed guilty until proven innocent?
Hindu Voice UK, July 2009

Is it not strange that for many Guru’s, Rishi’s or Seer’s that have emerged from India, there has always been attacks on them. These have come in the guise of slander, misquotes, false allegations and smear campaigns. Why is it the vast majority of these have been orchestrated by westerners? Why do we as Hindus read, hear, accept or turn a blind eye these?

The fact that we are born in the west or we are raised to admire the west may be a reason. There are many who give a lot of credit to anyone from the west, and there are many who believe in the old statement “Where there is fire there is smoke”. Let us start with the historical case of Vivekananda the great philosopher & teacher.

When Vivekananda went to Chicago in 1893 to speak at the parliament of the worlds religions in Chicago, he was ridiculed by members of other faiths. This was not because of what he said, but because of everyone’s lack of knowledge of Hinduism and their preconceptions of a faith based in mythology with worshipping of animals and nature. Indeed when the Gita was placed on the table, members of the other faiths starting placing their holy books on top of the Gita with each stating the Gita is nothing compared with their book. This resulted in a Vivekananda showing that the Gita is the foundation the ocean of knowledge. Remove this and all other texts will collapse. This incident and subsequent attempts to frame Vivekananda by the church during his maiden US voyage because of his mass appeal; showed the anti Hindu guru stance was taken by many over 100 years ago. This approach was also accepted by many and not challenged.

Let us now take the current case with Sathya Sai Baba. Many have heard of Sai Baba as the guru or Avatar who has performed untold miracles from childhood. Indeed you will find many who have seen or benefited from the miracles throughout the world. To be sceptic is in our nature, we must all enquire & experience. However, if allegations are proclaimed by people with ulterior motives, then the sceptics will often believe the rumours.

Over 90% of anti Sai allegations can be attributed to Tal Brook (Robert Taliaferro Brooke), who as a westerner was often seen at Sai Baba’s ashram in the 1970s. He proclaimed he was Sai Baba’s number one western follower. He started the sexual allegations campaign, which initiated from him talking to an unidentified man Surya Das who was told by another unidentified man ‘Patrick’ who had apparently had physical relations with Sai Baba. No one else has met these individuals.

Why did Tal Brooke go to India? He stated that spirit guides, and belief in “psychic stuff” brought him to India and to Sai Baba. Why did he suddenly stop his pro Sai Baba work whilst at the Ashram titled “The Amazing Advent”? Which Incidentally Sai Baba refused to bless. Why did he leave the ashram & circulate his anti Sai Baba rumours soon afterwards? Because he stated he had demonic encounters, hearing voices of spirits, out of body experiences, but acknowledged that Sai Baba had Christ like powers that baffled top scientists. In 1976 Tal Brook published an anti Sai book titled “Lord of the Air”*. In the book and in subsequent years he has attacked Sai Baba & Hinduism, suggesting that enlightenment is an evil path to Satan and that God-Men and Gurus are in a state of perfect demon possession. He believes that Sai Baba embodies a “timeless, demonic presence“. What does this say about the integrity and objectivity of his claims against Sai Baba?

What is also missing is the story of his constant high usage of drugs while at university & India, and his drug induced hallucinations of being self-realized. Other Americans recognised him as a fanatic Christian at the ashram, which is contrary to his claim of becoming a Christian post Sai Baba. He was a member of the Neo-American Church founded by Arthur Kleps (a follower of LSD guru Timothy Leary). Kleps was alleged to be anti-Semitic by the Dutch police who expelled him from Holland. Tal Brooke has denounced Hollywood as being anti Christ, and his smear campaign has lasted 30 years with multiple books and now with expensive internet ad campaigns.

Tal Brooke’s rumours and books led to many copy cat accusers, most of whom who had had a dubious past, but not once has there been any proof. The recent most famous example is of Alaya Rahm who in the 1990s as a young man told he had sexual encounters with Sai Baba. The western media jumped on this, and even the BBC produced a programme which effectively made Sathya Sai Baba appear guilty. However Alaya Rahm (and others) had many opportunities to file a police or court case anywhere in India, this has never occurred. A lawsuit was created in the Superior Court of California on January 6, 2005 (Case No. 05cc01931). But realising expose was high he refused to go to court. No other alleged victim came forward to testify in support of his allegations, though anti-Sai activists claimed there were many alleged US victims. Amazing some eminent western Hindus have often joined the anti-Sai crusade with enthusiasm, which has often led to more people accepting the false accusations.

Such examples and more (e.g. on Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Maharishi Mahesh) show that when anti Guru Statements are made, everyone takes notice. On an international stage, as Hindus we have never done our own research on to try and prove that the Gurus may well be innocent. Worse, when the allegations are proved to be incorrect, we have not been able to use that opportunity to publicise that nationally or internationally.

*Republished in 1979 as “Sai Baba, Lord Of The Air”, renamed “Avatar of Night” in 1982 with a reprint in 1984, was renamed “Lord Of The Air: Tales of a Modern Antichrist” in 1990 and reprinted again as “Avatar of Night” in 1999.

Sathya Sai Baba, Alaya Rahm & The Failed Lawsuit – A New Perspective

Sathya Sai Baba, Alaya Rahm & The Failed Lawsuit – A New Perspective
Anti-Sai Activists released an article that discussed Alaya Rahm’s Failed Lawsuit against the Sathya Sai Baba Society in which they resorted to hyperbole, deflection, misrepresentations, lies and erroneous excuses in a brazen attempt to water down the end result of Alaya Rahm’s Lawsuit, i.e., it was self-dismissed before it ever went to trial and not even one other alleged victim (out of supposed “hundreds”) came forward to support or defend Alaya in his sexual abuse allegations.

Secret Swami & Sathya Sai Baba

Indian Swami Sathya Sai Baba

– Bill Aitken’s Opinion About The “Secret Swami” Program:
Not only has the BBC.co.uk repeatedly been accused of bias, Bill Aitken (an expert in comparative religion and a travel writer) said about their program against Sathya Sai Baba:

“The latest in these so called exposes is a BBC documentary whose agenda was so predetermined to denigrate Baba that it stooped to the unethical use of a spy camera. In a last farcical gesture, the producer hired some roadside entertainers to attempt to simulate Baba’s chamatkar. The result is so ludicrous that it leaves the viewer wondering as to who is funding this bizarre display of hostile reporting. The BBC is ultimately governed by the Anglican establishment, and churches in the west are losing out financially to the appeal of the Sai Baba movement. As a commercial broadcaster, the BBC’s opting for sleaze would have the dual advantage of discrediting a rival as well as getting good audience rating. The Church of England can have no objection to programmes that weaken perceived threats—like the papacy or Hindu holy men—to its (declining) influence in the world. Posing as a lion in Asia, the BBC is a mouse in Britain. It dare not criticise public icons like the Queen, who happens to be the supremo of the Anglican church.” (Reference)

“Secret Swami” Discussed In The Asian Voice:
In an interview with an Asian Voice correspondent, Mr Ashok Bhagani (a trustee of the Sai Organisation in the UK) said that he believed the allegations in the Secret Swami BBC documentary were completely factless and baseless and have never been proved. Mr Bhagani also stated that when devotees are selected by Baba for a private interview, there is always someone else present in the room, and this is especially the case when women and children meet him (Reference).

Navin Patel, a biochemistry student at the Sathya Sai Arts College in Bangalore during the 1970s, told Asian Voice that he visited Baba’s ashram many times and studied at Baba’s college long enough to know the allegations were untrue. Patel claimed the ‘secret Swami’BBC documentary was very misleading and was based on only two westerners who had their own monetary agendas. Patel expressed the opinion that western journalists were bashing Baba collectively (Reference).

– Tanya Datta & Dr Murli Manohar Joshi In “Secret Swami” Programme:
In the “Secret Swami” documentary, Tanya Datta queried Dr Murli Manohar Joshi about an official letter (released to the general public in December 2001) signed by A.B. Vajpayee (the then Prime Minister of India), P.N. Bhagawati (Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India), Ranganath Mishra (Chair Person, National Human Rights Commissioner of India and Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India), Najma Heptulla (President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union; UNDP Distinguished Human Development Ambassador) and Shivraj V. Patil (Member of Parliament, India; Formerly of the Lok Sabda & Union Minister) in which they all called the allegations against the Indian guru Satya Sai Baba “wild, reckless and concocted allegations made by certain vested interests” and that they “unequivocally condemned” the allegations as “baseless and malicious” (Reference).

– Suppressing Anti-Guru Bias In The “Secret Swami” Documentary:
Interesting enough, Khushwant Singh (an Indian Journalist consulted in the Secret Swami programme) stated in the GuruBusters video that he holds Anti-Guru and Rationalist views. Mr Singh said, “What you cannot prove by your reason, we reject…I reject God…I can only be wishful and say I hope that rationalism will thrive in this country as it has in some others.” For some mysterious reason, Mr Singh’s Anti-Guru and Rationalist views were not divulged in the Secret Swami programme.

– An Open Admission Of Bias About The “Secret Swami” Video:
Within the past 5-6 months, Andries Krugers Dagneaux (former webmaster and current “Main Representative, Supervisor and Contact” for the largest Anti-Sai Site on the internet, hetnet.nl/~exbaba: Reference) made several very disturbing claims that Michelle Goldberg (from salon.com), the Danish Radio (which produced the Seduced documentary), Tanya Datta (correspondent for the BBC in the production of the Secret Swami programme) and the BBC itself accepted, promoted the views of and were sympathetic with Anti-Sai Activists: Reference! It is true that Tanya Datta wrote an article promoting the Secret Swami programme in exclusive association with Basava Premanand (an atheist and long term critic & skeptic of Sathya Sai Baba since 1968). Tanya Datta also worked in close association with Premanand prior to the making of the Secret Swami programme.

– Pertaining To “Secret Swami” Witness, Mark Roche:
Mark Roche claimed in the Secret Swami documentary that he was allegedly abused once in 1976 (when he was approximately 25 years old) and maintained his devotion as a devotee to 1994 (for a period of 15 years). Strangely enough, Roche spent several weeks with Robert Priddy in 1994 and never gave any indication that he was upset with Baba or that anything was wrong. Mark Roche’s testimony came from “out of the blue” and he has neither filed a basic police complaint, court case or even a written testimony about his alleged experiences with Sathya Sai Baba (Reference).

– Pertaining To “Secret Swami” Witness, Alaya Rahm:
According to Alexandra Nagel (in her paper “Shiva Shaki”), Alaya Rahm (the prime interviewee on the Secret Swami) claimed that “on two different occasions” Sathya Sai Baba turned his penis into a vagina or made his penis disappear and then reappear. Nagel said that she personally talked to Alaya Rahm (then using the pseudonym “Sam Young”) and she obtained this first-hand testimony from him. Needless to say, nowhere else do we read this incredible (and simply unbelievable) claim from Alaya about Baba making his penis disappear and then reappear. Why not?

The testimonies of Alaya Rahm are sanitized versions of what Alaya actually encountered with Baba. In Alaya’s testimonies, Sathya Sai Baba is depicted as a human, with no paranormal powers, who is forcing Alaya into having sex with him. However, factor in the accounts that Alaya Rahm gave to Alexandra Nagel where Baba literally went from having male genitals to female genitals and things begin to appear quite different. Of course, by adding the information that Alaya gave to Nagel, many would doubt Alaya’s testimonies. Perhaps that’s why it was never mentioned. However, factoring in the miraculous genitalia change, if it were true (and why would Alaya lie about it?), one could most certainly reason that since Baba has the miraculous ability to literally change from one gender to another, his actions, no matter how sexual, cannot be equated with those of a normal human being. This is not making an excuse for what happened to Alaya. It is simply a very valid observation based on the miraculous, physical transformation that Alaya attributed to SSB, but did not discuss in his public testimonies. Some have attributed this “genitalia switch” to Baba being a hermaphrodite. However, if we are to truly believe the accounts made by Alaya, Sathya Sai Baba had a fully functional penis as Alaya claimed he saw it.

As a matter of fact, Keith Ord gave a very compelling sexual encounter with Sathya Sai Baba that Anti-Sai Sites refuse to list in their sexual abuse section. Why? Because Keith Ord talked about Sathya Sai Baba literally morphing his penis into a vagina! Keith Ord specifically said that Baba was not a hermaphrodite, but that Baba literally changed his penis into a vagina. Of course, this claim makes Keith Ord’s alleged sexual encounter with Baba sound crazy, which is why it is not listed under ExBaba’s sexual abuse section. Furthermore, David Bailey accepted Keith Ord’s story, but snipped out the “penis turned vagina” section because Bailey knew it would cast serious doubt on Keith Ord’s credibility. If Keith Ord’s testimony is seen as being unbelievable (because of the “genital switch” story), why is Alaya Rahm’s not seen as being the same?

Consequently, we are presented with the possiblities that either Alaya Rham lied about his experiences or Sathya Sai Baba has the miraculous ability to change his gender at will. Which scenario sounds more plausible?

In “Response To Form Interrogatories” in Alaya Rahm’s self-dismissed lawsuit against the Sathya Sai Baba Society (Form Interrogatory No. 6.3, Set One) Alaya Rahm fully admitted that he had been a daily user of illegal street drugs and alcohol since at least 1999 – 2005. Consequently, during Alaya Rahm’s “Divine Downfall” and India Today Anti-Sai interviews and during the filming of the BBC Documentary “Secret Swami” and the “Seduced By Sai Baba” Danish Documentary, Alaya Rahm was under the influence of illegal street drugs and alcohol while relating his alleged sexual encounters with Sathya Sai Baba. This crucial information wholly undermines Alaya Rahm’s credibility and irreparably compromises the integrity of his claims. Needless to say, this information has been purposely suppressed from the general public by Anti-Sai Activists, the Rahm Family and the media (Ref).

In “Response To Form Interrogatories” in Alaya Rahm’s self-dismissed lawsuit against the Sathya Sai Baba Society (Form Interrogatory No. 6.3, Set One) Alaya Rahm fully admitted that he had been a daily user of illegal street drugs and alcohol from 1995 – 2005. Needless to say, Alaya Rahm’s alcoholism and drug addiction have been purposely suppressed from the general public by Anti-Sai Activists, the Rahm Family and the media.

The Big Question: Is A Decade-Long Daily User Of Illegal Street Drugs And Alcohol Credible?

You be the judge:

Alaya Rahm In The Secret Swami Program
Alaya Rahm In The Secret Swami Program

Following In The Moral & Ethical Footsteps Of Ex-Devotees:
During the filming of the Secret Swami documentary, Dr. Michael Goldstein was secretly filmed in the privacy of his home by BBC Interviewers who subjected him to a series of questions in a clearly confrontational tone of voice. Although Goldstein was composed for the majority of the interview, he answered one question with great emotion and Anti-Sai Activists (instead of portraying him in a balanced and fair way) carefully clipped specific movie frames from the Secret Swami Program and made self-serving pictures of him that are widely distributed on Anti-Sai websites and blogs, along with their typical slurs and misleading comments. See for yourself: 0102030405.

The BBC Interviewers demanded from Goldstein that Sai Baba be subjected to a “proper legal process or a legalistic process”. However, the BBC Interviewers never asked Alaya Rahm or his family why they failed to resort to a “proper legal process or a legalistic process” in India against Sai Baba. Why should have Goldstein or the Sai Organization initiated a legal or legalistic inquiry into Alaya Rahm’s allegations when Alaya himself never filed a basic police complaint or court case against Sai Baba in India?

Therefore, since Ex-Devotees (who can often be seen boasting that they are rational, reasonable, moral, ethical, sensitive, honest, law-abiding and decent individuals) feel they can take picture frames from the Secret Swami Program and broadcast them on the internet, I see no reason why I cannot follow in their footsteps and do the same thing. Consequently, this webpage is the direct result of Ex-Devotee’s online behavior.

Barry Pittard Accuses Lawyer William Brelsford Of Incompetence

On February 28th 2007, Barry Pittard wrote a blogged article entitled “Sai Baba’s ‘Minister of Propaganda’ – Dr G. Venkataraman”. In this article, Barry Pittard said (in part):

barrypittard.wordpress.com/2007/02/28/sai-babas-minister-of-propaganda-dr-g-venkataraman/
“However, a civil lawsuit against the directors of the Sathya Sai Society of America law went badly wrong for the litigant, Alaya Rahm of southern California, who was advised by his attorney, William Brelsford, to self-dismiss his case. This resulted in terms so absurdly unfavourable to Rahm that some of us have wondered whether his pro bono lawyer William Brelsford can even look himself in the mirror of a morning. Had the family not suffered enough – having already courageously lent themselves to former devotee efforts with Denmark’s national broadcaster DR, BBC television, FBI and State Department, UNESCO, etc., – I, for one, favoured initiating a complaint process about William Brelsford to the California Bar Society.”

Barry Pittard Accuses Lawyer William Brelsford Of Incompetence

To begin with, Alaya Rahm is not from Southern California and does not reside there. He resides in Arkansas (as confirmed in court records). Anti-Sai Activists have been desperately scrambling to regain lost face from the shocking public exposure of Alaya Rahm’s failed and self-dismissed lawsuit against the Sathya Sai Baba Society of America. Attorney Brelsford knew that he could not win the case due to overwhelming evidence against his client (Alaya Rahm) and advised him to self-dismiss his case.

Claiming to be intimately familiar with Alaya Rahm’s failed lawsuit, Ex-Devotees embarrassed themselves when they publicly lied and erroneously claimed that Alaya Rahm’s case was heard by Judge John M. Watson on April 28th 2006 (despite the official court records scans on my website proving otherwise) and they left this error in place for over a year. This glaring mistake was finally corrected and it was casually dismissed as a ‘clerical error’.

In Ex-Devotee’s response to Alaya Rahm’s failed lawsuit, the main thrust of their retort heavily relied on self-serving quotes allegedly taken from a letter written by attorney William Brelsford on their behalf (in which he was cited as a credible authority and voice of legal expertise).

Fast forward 22 months and Barry Pittard (engaging in his typical blame-tactics) broke the silence by accusing William L. Brelsford of incompetence and being ‘seriously deficient’. Barry Pittard further stated that he ‘favoured initiating a complaint process about William Brelsford to the California Bar Society’. Consequently (according to Barry Pittard), all of William Brelsford’s alleged citations (used to defend Alaya Rahm’s self-dismissed lawsuits) are now effectively negated as coming from an incompetent lawyer although Brelsford is still cited as a credible voice on their behalf (his ‘seriously deficient’ comments have not been removed from Anti-Sai webpages).

Ex-Devotees have a nasty habit of blaming everyone else for their numerous failures and can often be seen misrepresenting facts, distorting information and even resorting to outright prevarication to make their shabby and half-baked arguments against Sathya Sai Baba (who has never been charged with any crime, sexual or otherwise). Now Ex-Devotees are defaming William Brelsford and are accusing him of incompetence for Alaya Rahm’s self-dismissed lawsuit although:

  1. Alaya Rahm’s court case was self-dismissed because he sued the wrong defendant in the wrong court in the wrong country.
  2. In “Response To Form Interrogatories” Alaya Rahm fully admitted that he had been a daily user of illegal street drugs and alcohol since at least 1999 – 2005. Needless to say, this information has been purposely suppressed from the general public by Anti-Sai Activists and the media.
  3. Alaya Rahm claimed that Lewis Kreydick & Family were all aware of “incidents” relating to his alleged molestation and named them (on record) as people who:
    1. Witnessed the INCIDENT or the event occurring immediately before or after the INCIDENT.
    2. Made statements at the scene of the INCIDENT.
    3. Heard statements made about the INCIDENT by any individual at the scene.
    4. Had knowledge of the INCIDENT.

Needless to say, Kreydick’s sworn and video-taped deposition wholly refuted all these points made by Alaya Rahm. The Society did not actively go out and attempt to discredit Alaya Rahm. Rather, they simply interviewed a witness named by Alaya Rahm himself and obtained a shocking and damaging deposition against him.

  4. The legal proceeding provided a forum in which Alaya Rahm’s claims could be thoroughly and critically examined. Through this process of investigation, it was discovered that Alaya Rahm and his family spoke at a number of retreats and conferences between 1995 and 1999 (during the time that the alleged sexual abuse events were said to have occurred). Inconsistent with Alaya Rahm’s later accusations, these conference talks (many of which were recorded and have been transcribed: Refs: 0102), contain no suggestion of any wrongdoing. The earlier words spoken by Alaya would appear to refute his later accusations, especially Alaya’s whole-hearted and enthusiastic praise of Sathya Sai Baba and the writing of a love poem to him after allegedly being sexually abused dozens of times.
  5. Notably, in pretrial discovery, Alaya Rahm claimed (by his own admission) that he had suffered no psychological trauma that would have required medical or psychiatric care. Furthermore, Alaya identified no psychologist who had ever examined him! As a matter of fact, Alaya Rahm never saw an “expert psychologist” and his parents never sent him to one. Rather, the only help that Alaya obtained was a 3 day seminar from the Landmark Forum on “Empowerment, self help and personal growth” that cost $795 in June 2005 (5-9 years after his alleged abuse and 5 months after he filed his lawsuit)! That’s it.

Barry Pittard conveniently ignored all of these crucial and pivotal facts about Alaya Rahm and instead blamed attorney William Brelsford although no one (not even one critic or other ex-devotee) was identified to the court to support, help or defend Alaya Rahm in his allegations against Sathya Sai Baba.

Barry Pittard is the picture of a lost-soul on the street, babbling to walls, trees and clouds, which cannot and do not respond to the rhetoric he repeats like an automaton. As a matter of fact, one can often see how Ex-Devotees thrive on repetition. “Deceive The Naive” is their motto and their parrot-like antics are used as psychological ploys to hypnotize, befuddle and mislead.

Barry Pittard and Robert Priddy’s gutless personal attacks and viperine scribblings (which they attempt to peddle as Holy Writ) are evidence of their renewed desperation and blog delirium. The stronger critics attack Sathya Sai Baba, the more they expose the truth about themselves. They are (as other’s have pointed out for a long time) a small and vocal group of angry, bitter and mentally unstable defamers who care more for sensationalism and sleaze and care less for honesty and the truth.

Barry Pittard said the following about James Redmond:

barrypittard.wordpress.com/2007/04/09/james-redmond-shot-secret-footage-of-sai-baba/
home.hetnet.nl/~ex_baba/engels/shortnews/barryjamesredmond.html
“Sai Baba’s Official Videographer Shoots Frauds in Secret.I may add that James Redmond has told a number of us former followers of Sai Baba he has various film footage in which it is clear that Sai Baba is faking miraculous materializations. However, after satisfying himself first hand of the truth of accounts that Sai Baba has long been a serial sexual molester of boys and young men, James Redmond, informing a small number of former Sai Baba devotee activists – among whom were the late Glen Meloy of Palm Desert California and me – of what he was doing, continued to film Sai Baba. Now primed precisely to train his cameras on Sai Baba’s sleight-of-hand tricks when ostensibly materializing objects, Redmond obtained ever more damning footage. After a few months, James Redmond sent out a letter to the large mailing list for his videos, mentioning convincing first-hand reports to him of Sai Baba’s sexual molestation of boys and young men and associated frauds as reasons for ceasing his attachment to Sai Baba.”

I emailed James Redmond on August 2nd 2005 and asked him:

“I came across an article written by Barry Pittard in which he said you were no longer a devotee of Sathya Sai Baba and that you believe that Sai is a pedophile and/or homosexual. Would you characterize these as being accurate statements?”

James Redmond tersely responded to my email and said that Barry’s statements about him were not accurate. However, in light of Barry Pittard’s recent posts about James Redmond I emailed him again and he has not responded.

Barry Pittard made mention to a letter that James Redmond sent to a “large mailing list” and claimed that Redmond mentioned “convincing first-hand reports to him of Sai Baba’s sexual molestation of boys and young men and associated frauds as reasons for ceasing his attachment to Sai Baba”. Needless to say, Barry Pittard’s comments are gutter fabrications and blatant exaggerations of known facts. James Redmond released the following letter on September 30th 2000 and ended it with a “Sai Ram” (a phrase typically uttered by Sai Devotees) and did not mention anything about “convincing first-hand reports to him of Sai Baba’s sexual molestation of boys and young men”. The only reference that Redmond made to the allegations was about “unusual experiences of young men with Sai Baba that are now circulating”. See for yourself:

The Video Education Company
Specializing in Professional Videos about Sathya Sai Baba

September 30, 2000

Dear Devotees,

After 12 years of making professional videotapes on and about Sathya Sai Baba, I have decided to close our office that distributes these videos. I’ve very much enjoyed doing all the audio and video recordings at the special events in India and at various Sai Retreats that I’ve been invited to in various countries around the world. Now, I believe, it is time for me to move on.

The Video Education Company will close its door on Nov. 30, 2000!

I’ve decided to close our office for several reasons:

The birth of my son Benjamin. Now my spare time is devoted to my family. I don’t have the extra time like I used to, to work for income and then do long hours of editing Sai related videos.

Over the past years I’ve been fortunate that I’ve always had other business going on that would support the Sai related videos. At times those businesses provided offices, phones, secretaries, and other staff at no charge to the video business. Now that those businesses are gone I now need to devote my working time to producing an income for my growing family.

The Sai related video business has not been totally self-sufficient. Over the past 12 years, it has not paid me a salary to work on these videos. Now that income is a priority for me, I need to drop those things that are not income producing. Also, it costs me to keep the doors open with a part time staff member, rent, utilities, etc.

The sales of Sai related videos have been going down, not up. This is due to several possible reasons: devotees are not as interested in Sai Baba recent discourses; and/or since a large number of other discourses are readily available the newer ones are not that popular; and/or some devotees copy the videos we produce.

Some devotees owe us for tapes that we shipped. Over the years, we’ve used the honor system with shipping out videos. Unfortunately this has not always worked.

The final reason that I’ve decided to close the office is because of the unusual experiences of young men with Sai Baba that are now circulating.

We’re having a closing sale on all videos, audio & CD’s.
Before it’s too late, you can save up to 50%.

We have inventory of a lot of the vidoes, some of the audio cassettes, and some of the CD’s. We will substantially discount these to move them out. It’s going to be first come, first serve. Once we’re done with a particular tape, that’s it! We will not duplicate more tapes. We don’t know if you will be able to get these videos in the future. If you want to make sure that you have a particular tape or set of tapes, now is the time to stock up. Remember some tapes, we only have a few of. Those that order first get them.

If you order 2 to 5 videos save 20%, 6 to 9 videos save 30%, 10 to 19 videos save 40%, 20 or more videos save 50%. To qualify for this discount you must pay when you order.

These special discounts also apply to CD’s and audio cassettes as separate categories not to be combined with other categories (such as video tapes). To qualify for this discount you must pay when you order. We have 1 new video from July 16, 2000, the Guru Poornima Discourse.

Last year I was able to work out with the ashram officials the permission to be able to videotape in India. From my understanding, I am one of a few individuals that have this priviledge. I went in July and now have edited the Guru Poornima Discourse.

I also want to thank all of you that have offered words of encouragement and support and have been loyal customers over the years. You have been great! Now is the time for me to move on…

All the best and Sai Ram, James Redmond

For some mysterious reason, the saivideos.com website was continuing to sell Sai Videos (through the “Video Education Company”) on the internet until April 2004, almost four years after James Redmond allegedly closed down his video store (Refs: 010203). At the bottom of the referenced links, one will notice the pages state they were last modified on March 6th 2004 (meaning that the website was active and was being updated up to March 6th 2004).

The reason why James Redmond stayed in business for four years after allegedly closing down his Sai Videos store was one of subterfuge. Barry Pittard explicitly stated that James Redmond defected from Sai Baba but secretly stayed on with the intent to capture acts of fraudulent manifestations on film:

“…after satisfying himself first hand of the truth of accounts that Sai Baba has long been a serial sexual molester of boys and young men, James Redmond, informing a small number of former Sai Baba devotee activists…of what he was doing, continued to film Sai Baba. Now primed precisely to train his cameras on Sai Baba’s sleight-of-hand tricks when ostensibly materializing objects, Redmond obtained ever more damning footage.”

Strangely enough, Barry Pittard fully believes that Sathya Sai Baba possesses genuine paranormal powers. See my article entitled Shanti McIvor, Baba Slings, Sai Isa & Sathya Sai Baba’s Genuine Paranormal Powers.

Needless to say, to date no reputable organizations specializing in fraud have confirmed any acts of fraud in any videos relating to Sathya Sai Baba. Erlendur Haraldsson took one such video (where it was alleged that Sathya Sai Baba could clearly be seen “faking” a materialization) to a company specializing in corporate fraud and the verdict showed no firm evidence of fraud. As a matter of fact, Haraldsson wrote (cited from his book “Miracles Are My Visiting Cards: An Investigative Report on Psychic Phenomena Associated with Sathya Sai Baba”; ISBN: 8186822321):

“The quality and resolution of the tape leaves much to be desired and limits the inferences that can be drawn from it. Dr. Wiseman took the videotape to a company which specialises in investigating corporate fraud. This company posesses some of the world’s best equipment designed to enhance poor quality videotape. The technician kindly offered to enhance the videotape in question. The videotape was run thorugh a real time Snell & Wilcox Kudos Noise Reducer. The machine carries out three operations. First, it removes via recursive filters the random noise on the tape caused by repeated copying. Second, it improves the graininess of the video by median filters and finally enhances any edges on the the video through edge enhancement filters. After all this the video is certainly easier to watch, and did not contain much of the random noise present on the copy provided by the Deccan Chronicle. However, the resulting tape still did not reveal further information about the incident. In short, the reason for Sai Baba’s hand movements still appears unclear and is open for various interpretations, but the tape contained no firm evidence of fraud. The company also analysed several still frames taken from the video. These were scanned into a computer and run through an Improve image processing system (developed by the Home Office in Britain). Again, the images were enhanced via median filters and certain areas of the frames were enlarged. The resulting photographs show the crucial moment as Sai Baba’s hands touch under the memento, but do not reveal any further information…”

Therefore, despite the rants and ravings from Anti-Sai Activists, they simply cannot argue with the results of the analysis. The allegation of trickery in this GuruBusters video is completely unfounded. Why haven’t ex-devotees and James Redmond taken their alleged videos to companies specializing in fraud and have them independently back up their claims of deceit, sleight-of-hand and magic against Sai Baba?

Further strengthening the case that Barry Pittard’s claims about James Redmond are true, the fact that Mr. Redmond purchased and registered the domain name alayarahm.com is highly indicative that James Redmond is associated with the Anti-Sai Movement. The alayarahm.com index page simply states:

info@AlayaRahm.com

The background image states “Manifest Entertainment” and the background image is named “cd face copy”.

Alaya Rahm was an alleged sexual abuse victim who made his accounts known through various media. However, much has been purposely suppressed about Alaya Rahm, including his claim that Sathya Sai Baba miraculously transformed his genitals from male to female twice. Alaya Rahm also wrote a love poem to Sathya Sai Baba after allegedly being sexually abused dozens of times. Alaya Rahm attempted to sue the Sathya Sai Baba Society and self-dismissed his own lawsuit after Lewis Kreydick (a witness Alaya Rahm himself named in “Response To Form Interrogatories”) came forward and refuted all of his claims. See:

Lewis Kreydick testified in a video deposition that Alaya Rahm and James Redmond were together at Kodaikanal in 1998/1999 to see Sathya Sai Baba. According to Kreydick, James Redmond was there with his fiancee to have their marriage blessed by Sai Baba. Sathya Sai Baba did not bless Redmond’s marriage and both he and his fiancee were very disappointed (Refs: 01). Shortly after this time, the Rahm Family defected from Sai Baba and so did James Redmond (according to Barry Pittard).

All of this information highlights James Redmond’s deceit, dishonesty and subterfuge. While claiming to be a Sai Devotee (and speaking like a Sai Devotee), James Redmond was an Anti-Sai Activist who secretly allied himself with the Anti-Sai Movement and attempted to capture Sai Baba’s sleight-of-hand on film. He failed. After closing his Sai Video’s store in the year 2000, James Redmond was still selling Sai Videos on the internet (apparently trying to make a few quick bucks off unsuspecting Sai Devotees) up to April 2004. These are the type of individuals who are attempting to “expose” Sathya Sai Baba. The harder they try, the more egg ends up on their faces.
