As a part of the Sai Baba Community Service Project charity program and prior to Sathya Sai Baba‘s 83rd Birthday on 23rd November, the Community has organised Eye Camps to help people who suffer from eye problems and cannot afford to have treatment.

The project has managed to organise two Eye Camps in two months. The first Eye Camp took place in July this year and the second in August.

Both Eye Camps were organised in association with The New Century Lions Club of Arusha. The first Eye Camp was held at the junctions of Kilimanjaro International Airport and more than 300 people from neighbouring villages attended it.

Patients were given specialist treatment, medicine and glasses free of charge. More than 15 people needed Cataract Operation and were referred to Specialist Eye Hospitals.

Six of the elderly people from Lemara, Themi and Kijenge who needed Cataract Operation were referred to Meru District Hospital in Tengeru and were assured by the project of full post operation care.

The elders who were operated on got their vision back and thanked the organisers of the charity for their initiative.

After the outcome from the first Eye Camp, the project had a second Eye Camp in Njiro Container on 24th August in association with The New Century Lions Club of Arusha and with the help of Engutoto Councillor Mr. Alfred Mollel, the Ward Executive Officer Mr. Kitumbo and other Ward officers.
