T’PURAM: The six-day long Sathya Sai Music Festival as part of Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s 82nd birthday celebration began at Vaikom on Sunday. The festival is being held at the Sathya Sai Seva Samithy, Thekke Nada, Vaikom.

Classical music concert by Malini Hairharan, Parvathipuram Padmanabha Iyer, Thamarakkad Govindan Nampoothiri and Vechoor Sankar will be the highlights of the festival from Monday to Thursday.

A day-long musical tribute will be paid to Sathya Sai Baba on Friday, November 23, on his 82nd birthday.

The day’s celebration will begin at 5 a.m. with Omkaram, Suprabhatam and Nagarasankeerthanam.

Mavelikkara Velukkutty Nair will perform at 8.20 a.m. followed by Jaya-Vijaya Jayan at 9.30 a.m. From 11 a.m., there will be Thyagaraja Pancharatna Keerthana alapanam by hundreds of singers.

At 4.15 p.m, Prof Kumara Kerala Varma will lead the concert. The festivities will come to a close at 6 p.m. with a special programme Joola led by Vechoor Sankar.

The birthday celebrations began with Rudrabhishekam on Saturday.
