Hyderabad, July 19- ANI: A team of Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS) of Gujarat Police arrested a terror suspect allegedly involved in the attack on Gandhinagars Akshardham Temple in 2002, here today.

The OCTOPUS took Shoukatullah Ghouri into the custody immediately after his arrival from Saudi Arabia, at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Ahmedabad court has issued a non bailable warrant against Ghouri. He was accompanied by his wife and four children from Jeddah, where he said to be working as a religious cleric in a mosque.

Ghouri was interrogated by the Intelligence Bureau, OCTOPUS, and Andhra Police in an undisclosed location. Police also reportedly questioned Ghouris wife and children in a farmhouse in the citys outskirts, and also seized their passport and educational documents before releasing them.

Hyderabad Police said, Ghouri was handed over to Gujarat police, as no case was registered against him in Andhra Pradesh.

According to police Ghouri had links with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed and had fled to Saudi Arabia after the attack on Akshrdham temple. He was reportedly in the city for the treatment of his ailing wife.

Ghouris brother, Farhatullah Ghouri, is also a most wanted terrorist who allegedly masterminded the blast in Sai Baba temple at Puttaparti in Andhra Pradesh and suspected suicide attack on the office of the Hyderabad city police Task Force. Sai Baba Devotees Protest Demolition Of 10 Year Old Temple

Devotees protest temple demolition
7 Oct 2008, 0630 hrs IST,TNN

BANGALORE: What started with one person complaining about a noisy temple bell in September has transformed into a mass protest against demolition of
the temple. Close to a hundred people – devotees, representatives of All India Sri Shirdi Sai Movement and Sai Mandirs across South India – protested before the Gandhi statue on MG Road on Monday. They are against the demolition of the 10-year-old Shirdi Sai Mandir in Kamakshipalya.

Their three main demands: immediate withdrawal of the BBMP’s demolition order, regularization of the temple structure and action against corrupt officials who violated BBMP norms by passing the order within 24 hours. The All India Shirdi Sai Movement plans to take up the issue on a national level if the demands are not fulfilled by October 16.

According to the protesters, an issue that could’ve been sorted out through an understanding with neighbours was blown out of proportion and took an illegal turn.

“We aren’t against the regularization drive but it should be justified. The issue was unnoticed for the past 10 years; the order was issued within 24 hours. I am really upset,” said D Gangappa, a retired IAS officer who was among the protesters.

BBMP commissioner S Subramanya said: “The BBMP is also God-fearing and has nothing against the temple. However, the temple authorities had no answer when asked about a sanctioned building plan.” (Reference)

10-yr-old temple faces demolition
23 Sep 2008, 0426 hrs IST,TNN

BANGALORE: A small Sri Shirdi Sai Baba temple near Magadi Road is facing a threat of demolition by the BBMP. While the civic agency is backing the de
cision, saying the temple violates provisions of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, temple authorities allege that their neighbour – wife of a high court judge – influenced the move.

The 10-year-old temple in Kamakshipalaya on Magadi Road is built on private land. A devotee leased his revenue site to the temple trust for a period of 20 years. The trust also runs a school for the hearing-and-speechimpaired here. Trouble started after a two-day Namasmarana was held in the temple on September 16-17 . The round-theclock name-chanting service was part of the trust’s annual activity.
The judge’s wife allegedly complained about the ‘constant, loud noise of bells’ on September 17, and asked temple authorities to relocate the mandir. Ramprasad Guruji, president of the trust, tried to convince her but was met with resistance and warned of consequences if they failed to relocate . At 11 pm the same day, a team of BBMP officials visited the temple, asking for documents. At 6 pm the next day, the trust was informed that the temple will be demolished.

“It is not just the decision to demolish the temple that surprises us, but also the speed with which the BBMP arrived at it,” Ramprasad Guruji said. BBMP maintained that as the plan is not approved, the temple will be demolished, if not relocated.

Trustees and devotees met law minister S Suresh Kumar on Monday. The demolition has been put on hold. However , they want more than a temporary respite and are pushing for a permanent end to the demolition threat. (Reference)

94-kg Gold Throne For Sai Baba

Shirdi (Maharashtra) : Sri Sai Baba Sansthan at Shirdi – the town famous for Sai Baba’s temple – received an early morning bounty Thursday from two devotees.

Two brothers, Mahesh and Girish Reddy of Hyderabad, gifted the Sansthan a 94-kg gold throne costing a whopping Rs. 100 million.

It has been made by artisans in Bangalore for a five-and-half feet idol of Sai Baba, installed at the Sai Temple in Shirdi.

It was a challenge for the Reddys and the transporters to ferry the throne safely to Shirdi, located nearly 200 km from Pune.

The Reddys packed it in a bus, which was escorted by a fleet of 15 cars carrying gun-toting security personnel.

Jayant Sasane, director of Sri Sai Baba Sansthan, said the siblings, builders by profession, are Sai Baba devotees and have been visiting the temple town for the past 20 years.

During one such trip, they had sought Sai Baba’s blessings for a big contract which could bring them prosperity. They promised to install a special gold throne for the Sai Baba if they bagged the contract.

Apparently, Sai Baba fulfilled their wish and the Reddys called the Sansthan to tell them that they would keep their promise made to the Baba, Sasane told IANS.

“Incidentally, one-and-a-half years ago we had announced our plan for a gold throne for Sai Baba. Devotees had been donating for the cause and so far we have collected around Rs. 10 million,” Sasane said.

Some political parties suggested that the money meant for the throne should be used for victims of natural calamities.

“Last September, the Reddys called with their private offer to install the gold throne,” he said.

It will be installed Sunday (December 23), the day of Dutta Jayanti. The date is significant for millions of Sai Baba devotees around the world as he is considered an incarnation of Dutta Guru.

The throne is the second most generous donation that the Sansthan received in 2007. In June, one V.K. Ramani of Chennai donated Rs. 750 million, Sasane said.

Ramani, an IT professional, donated it for the construction of the sprawling Dutta Niwas. “It will cost almost Rs 10 billion. The money donated by Ramani will be used and the Sansthan will spend the rest,” Sasane added.

When completed, the Dutta Niwas will accommodate 15,000 devotees at a time, making it one of the largest congregation halls in the country.

Huge Attendance At Sai Baba Temple Guru Purnima Celebrations
Thu Jul 24, 2008
BY K.B.NAIR

MONTEBELLO,CA – An unprecedented flow of hundreds of devotees to receive the blessings of their guru Sai Baba marked the celebration of Guru Purnima at the Shri Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan LA, here in an event spread over three days, July 17 – 20. With almost double the number of expected people showing up, volunteers were hard pressed to produce the Mahaprasad to feed all arrivals. However the army of volunteers responded to the challenge by setting up a kitchen on site for cooking and made sure that not a single visitor left hungry.

The event paying respect to the guru saw several aaratis, poojas and hawans performed during its duration which were all well attended and supported by eager followers of the Baba. The Lalitha and Vishnu Sahasranamams were also recited on different days, On Saturday, after the daily morning kakad aarati the final ceremonies commenced with the Samoohika Kserabhishekam. This service comprised the bathing of the sacred idol of Sai Baba with water and milk in which almost a hundred people participated.

Following this ritual the curtains were drawn and the idol was kept away from the sight of the public while it was draped for ‘alankara’ in fresh new apparel and the alter decked with flowers and food . There was much joy and excitement among the gathering when the drapes were drawn to a darshan revealing the Guru in splendid attire placed in beautifully decorated surroundings.

After the pooja of the Sadguru the priest had the growing congregation squat on the floor and immerse itself in the combined chanting of “Om” for a quarter of an hour which added a whole new spiritual ambience to the religious experience.

Addressing the devotees on the occasion , the founder of the temple, Dr Prabhakar Tummala reminded devotees how the temple when it was inaugurated last year, started with just the basics. He thanked Baba’s staunch devotees which has grown to over 4,000 strong and the volunteer ‘soldiers’ of Baba in converting it to a full fledged temple in a matter of months. He continued to say that this sanctuary is a “Shirdi away from Shirdi.”

Tummala announced upcoming events and said a neem tree would also be planted behind the structure to replicate the setting in Shirdi in India.

The morning rituals concluded with the ceremonial planting of the Udumbara tree when a puja was conducted in the courtyard of the temple with devotees doing three pradarshans around it while chanting “Om Sai Namo Namaha” and each one throwing a handful of rice into the receptacle holding the plant. This again was to duplicate the presence of a similar tree in Shirdi under which the Sai Baba spent several happy and peaceful hours.

In the afternoon there were bhajan sessions led by Suresh and a presentation of episodes from the Ramayana by children of “Bala Gokulam” which meets at the temple every Saturday.

Devotees celebrate “Guru Purnima”By ANI on Friday, July 18, 2008

Varanasi/ Allahabad/ New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): A large number of devotees across India thronged temples to celebrate “Guru Purnima”, coinciding with the full moon day.

Hindus observe the day in praise of “Guru” (teacher).

In the national capital, devotees gathered at a temple of Shirdi Sai Baba. They offered garlands and sweets to the saint.

“The day is observed to celebrate the teacher-student relationship. Spiritual gurus are regarded as God. It is believed that the guru can enlighten a person. They play an important role in one’’s life. They help their disciples to come out of the whirlpool of life”, said Parmanand, a devotee.

According to a legend, Sai Baba who was a nameless pauper took shelter in a mosque in Shirdi town, but never asked for food or water, He hardly spoke.

Curious villagers took pity on the feeble and sparsely clothed man and donated fruits and clothing. But to their surprise, the “fakir” shared whatever he got with the destitute and even animals.

Soon “Baba” and “Sai” both words associated with saints were prefixed to his name and the poor, needy and the destitute from far off began pouring in to hear him.

People paid respects to their gurus in Varanasi that houses innumerable religious schools.

Devotees chanted hymns and made long queues to pay respects to their gurus.

“The student has a tendency to emulate the guru. There is a reflection of the guru in the student. It is the guru who provides the student with knowledge and guides the student to tread the correct path,” said Saraswati, a resident.

In Allahabad, people made offerings to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, well known as the Beatles” guru, who took transcendental meditation to the West.

This was the day when Krishna-dwaipayana Vyasa – author of the Mahabharata – was born.

The spiritual Gurus are revered on this day by remembering their life and teachings. (ANI)

Directions To Shirdi – How To Get To The Sai Baba Temple In Shirdi

Shirdi Sai Baba

How to get to Shirdi:
Nearest airports are Mumbai (260 km), Pune (185 km), and Aurangabad (125 km). Flights for all the major cities in India and abroad can be taken from Mumbai. The nearest railway station is Manmad (60 km) on the Central Railway, which is connected to many parts of the country with express trains. Most of the trains touching Nasik Road railway station also touch Manmad. Shirdi has railway reservation office for trains from Manmad. Taxis and buses are easily available at Manmad railway station for transfer to Shirdi. Regular taxi service also operates between Manmad railway station and bus stand. State Transport Corporation and private operators run coaches to Shirdi from Mumbai. The easiest way to get to Shirdi is by bus. If you fly into the Mumbai airport, hire a taxi (the ones that are in lines at the very front of the airport) to take you to the Dadar Bus Stand. The cost is about Rs.-150 to Rs.-175 (make sure they turn the meter on). There are also people who will try to redirect you to their own “private” taxis. These “private” taxis charge between Rs. 400 to Rs. 600 to take you to the Dadar Bus Stand. At the Dadar Bus Stand, there are long lines of small ticket counters that sell bus tickets to Shirdi. Preferably, try to get an A/C direct bus (Rs.-300). If you are not able to get an A/C direct bus, get a non-A/C direct bus (Rs.-150). Buses leave almost every 3 hours from Mumbai to Shirdi. So your wait will not be long. The buses make about 2 stops for food. The restaurants are non-vegetarian. So make sure you pack some snacks and bottled water for the trip. Keep an eye on your luggage! Try to get a bus that departs before 11am so you will not arrive too late at Shirdi.

Where to stay and eat:
I would personally recommend (for foreigners) to stay at Hotel Neeta. Hotel Neeta is directly across from the Shirdi Temple Complex. Hotel Neeta is also easy to find, close to bus-booking agencies and gift shops. The best vegetarian restaurant I found was a restaurant called Sai Sagar, which happens to be located on the ground floor to Hotel Neeta. I tried various vegetarian restaurants and found Sai Sagar to be the best. Their prices are very reasonable and the food portions are generous. Hotel Neeta costs between Rs.-700 to Rs.-1200 per night (depending on whether you want A/C or Non-A/C rooms or single or double beds). That is approximately $20 US Dollars per night. If you would like to make reservations at Hotel Neeta, you can call them at: 952423-255802 / 255801. For your information, I do not have any sort of relations or contacts with Hotel Neeta. I am simply recommending them from my own personal experiences with them. I also stayed at Sai Leela, which is also a very nice hotel, but I did not like their food and thought it was very expensive for the portion size and quality. Sai Leela is similarly priced as Hotel Neeta. Sai Leela has a swimming pool and is about a 10 minute walk to the Shirdi Temple Complex. On the way to Shirdi, there are many billboards advertising the Sai Leela Hotel, saying the cost for rooms is around Rs.-500. Those billboards are old and the prices are incorrect. If you want a swimming pool, you can stay at Sai Leela and eat at Sai Sagar.

Things to know while visiting Shirdi:
A majority of the people do not speak English inside or outside of the Temple Complex at Shirdi. Most of the people who speak English are the ones who run the larger hotels. Purchase anti-diarrheal medications before you leave to Shirdi. The Temple Complex has two main places for you to keep your shoes (cost is 1 rupee). If you are wearing chappals or sandals, you have to store them at a separate shoe counter. This is perhaps the most confusing part of the ashram. I would suggest you buy some cheap sandals, mark you name on them and find a place to put them in case you get confused about the shoe counters. Just remember where you put your sandals, because when you come out of from the Darshan area, you are on the opposite side of the Temple Complex. I was not able to find any sort of public internet facilities when I was at Shirdi. Shirdi does have telephone services for local, state and international calls. When booking a return bus ticket to Bombay, make sure you get the earliest bus (it takes 7 hours to get to Bombay) and make sure the bus is A/C (costs around Rs.-300). Try to sit on the left hand side of the bus so you can keep an eye on your luggage, which is stored in a compartment below the bus. The boys who sell flowers, pictures and statues can be very stubborn and will literally follow your for hours. If you would like to help them out (most are very poor), make your purchases a few hours prior to leaving Shirdi. Otherwise, you will attract large groups of sellers. A small bundle of roses (about 3-4 roses tied together) costs Rs.-3, if you would like to offer flowers in the temple.

Inside The Sai Baba Temple:
Once you go inside the Temple for Darshan, you can expect long lines if it is a Holy Day. Otherwise, you will not have to wait long at all. Avoid Holy Days (the lines are extremely long and the wait can easily exceed 5 hours). You can expect police officers and Temple workers to be screaming loudly at people to hurry up and move forward. I would suggest you get in the furthest left-hand side line. In that line, you can touch Sai Baba’s actual samadhi and the silver chappals that are located there. You can offer flowers and there are places where you can offer money. As soon as you offer your flowers and touch his samadhi, kindly leave the area. Winters are the best season to visit Shirdi. The months from September to April being the ideal period. The daytime temperature is pleasant during this period, making the days excellent for visiting the tourist attractions of the town. The summers can get very hot (May-August). Make sure you drink bottled water.

Quotes From Sai Baba:

“Be wherever you like, do whatever you choose, remember this well that all what you do is known to Me. I am the Inner Ruler of all and seated in their hearts. I envelope all the creatures, the movable and immovable world. I am the Controller – the wire-puller of the show of this Universe. I am the mother – origin of all beings – the Harmony of three Gunas, the propeller of all senses, the Creator, Preserver and Destroyer. Nothing will harm him, who turns his attention towards Me, but Maya will lash or whip him who forgets Me. All the insects, ants, the visible, movable and immovable world, is My Body or Form…” ~Sai Baba

“If a man utters My name with love, I shall fulfill all his wishes, increase his devotion. And if he sings earnestly My life and My deeds, him I shall beset in front and back and on all sides. Those devotees, who are attached to Me, heart and soul, will naturally feel happiness, when they hear these stories. Believe Me that if anybody sings My Leelas, I will give him infinite joy and everlasting contentment. It is My special characteristic to free any person, who surrenders completely to Me, and who does worship Me faithfully, and who remembers Me, and meditates on Me constantly. How can they be conscious of worldly objects and sensations, who utter My name, who worship Me, who think of My stories and My life and who thus always remember Me? I shall draw out My devotees from the jaws of Death. If My stories are listened to, all the diseases will be got rid of. So, hear My stories with respect; and think and meditate on them, assimilate them. This is the way of happiness and contentment. The pride and egoism of My devotees will vanish, the mind of the hearers will be set at rest; and if it has wholehearted and complete faith, it will be one with Supreme Consciousness. The simple remembrance of My name as ‘Sai, Sai’ will do away with sins of speech and hearing…” ~Sai Baba

“Whoever puts his feet on Shirdi soil, his sufferings will come to an end. The wretched and miserable will rise into plenty of joy and happiness, as soon as they climb the steps of my Mosque. I shall be ever active and vigorous even after leaving this earthly body. My tomb shall bless and speak to the needs of my devotees. I shall be active and vigorous even from my tomb. I am Ever living to help and guide all, who come to me, who surrender to me and who seek refuge in me. If you look at me I look at you. If you cast your burden on me, I shall surely bear it. If you seek my advice and help, it shall be given to you at once. There shall be no want in the house of my devotees….” ~Sai Baba
